My grandma just spotted a huge, swollen bubble of a zit on my cheek. Ached by the sight of my gruesome facial growth, grandma gestured me over to her medicine cabinet and pleaded, "Put some turpentine on that soar to suck that poison out". And follow that backwoods prescription I did. Certainly, turpentine is not an FDA approved acne drug, but by the next morning, that swollen nodule had somehow flattened into healed skin.

Not all zit tales end in such swift bliss.

Many people tormented by pimples find no reprieve with trusted pustule terminators like benzoyl peroxide or antibiotics. And so researchers toil away in labs and challenge the stamina of pimple prone skin with yet another acne preventative. However, this summer, the entourage of novel acne therapies could make blemishes retreat from the skin.

Reduced dosage isotretinoin

For starters, doctors may soon prescribe the acne drug typically reserved for the most severe cases of cystic or nodular acne, isotretinoin, for mild to moderate cases of acne. Just this past June, a study published in the Expert Review of Dermatology found that an intermittent, low-dose regimen of isotretinoin could mitigate potentially caustic side effects of isotretinoin, like liver damage and extreme skin dryness, while still effectively controlling acne.

Bio-identical acne preventing agents

While isotretinoin effects acne control by reducing facial oil secretion and bacterial counts, a recently patented bio-product called phytosphingosine (PS) may combat pimples by mitigating pain inducing inflammation.

Phytosphingosine (PS) is a fat that exists in upper layers of the skin called the the stratum corneum. According to a report in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, a skin-identical version of phytosphingosine exhibited antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties in the skin. Researchers suspect that this new anti-acne fat may soon complement topical pimple treatments.

Less menacing contraceptives

If such fat laden topical acne creams prove insufficient to tame blossoming blemishes, woman can bolster their skin care regime with contraceptives. And with the arrival of a new hormonal agent called drospirenone, women may enjoy less pimples and a more pleasant period.

Doctors may prescribe an oral contraceptive blend of spirolactone and ethinyl estradiol to female acne patients over age 35.

Similar to spironolactone, drospirenone helps prevent acne by reducing androgenic hormonal activity like excess facial oil production. Yet when drospirenone displaces spirolactone in such contraceptives, women experience better acne control and less menstrual weight gain and pain, while enjoying the same level efficacious birth control.

While I don't foresee pine derivative like turpentine stealing the acne controlling spot light from isotretinoin, phytosphingosine, or birth control pills, I do predict that in a generation from now, the multifaceted causes and contributors to acne lesions will continue to baffle scientists and continue to crowd our cabinets with test-worthy acne antidotes. In the mean time, "Thank you grandma."

Sources:

Pavicic, T; U Wollenweber, M Farwick & H Korting.. It is also said to cause discolored teeth in them.

Medications containing female hormones: Researchers are still inconclusive on this subject, which are related with the development of the fetus and the female hormones, certain hormones can be passed on to the baby either during breast feeding or during pregnancy. But then, it is thought to cause birth defects in the baby.

Even though acne during pregnancy is not uncommon, it could cause fears of using topical drugs or any kind of treatment during such period for acne, hence could cause stress. This drug, though intended to help people with heart problems not zit problems, reduces the production of the hormone androgen. Androgen promotes excess facial oil secretion.
Less oil secretion limits the possibility of having clogged pores and acne flare-ups. Spironolactone works as an androgen receptor blocker. This drug decreases androgen production in the ovaries and adrenal glands.

Side effects from spironolactone can include breast tenderness and menstrual irregularity. For this reason, doctors usually add oral contraceptives like Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Estrostephave to compliment acne treatments and ease potential spironolactone side effects. Ironically though, spironolactone is recommended for women who are not candidates for oral contraceptives.

So should a woman over 35 with acne go with spironolactone? According to the American College of Physicians, the answer is “No”.

In the 2004, the American College of Physicians (ACP) published a medical review of studies that tested the effectiveness of spironolactone for controlling hirsutism, acne, or both in fertile or postmenopausal women. The ACP review found insufficient evidence to recommend spironolactone as an acne treatment.

Nevertheless, Dr. Diane Thiboutot of Pennsylvania State University, Hershey uses spironolactone for female patients with acne accompanied by a suspected endocrine disorder.

For example, when a woman experiences a sudden onset of severe acne or acne that is linked with excessive facial hair growth, irregular menstrual periods, increased libido, dark patches of skin, deepening of the voice, insulin resistance and hair loss, spironolactone may be helpful.

Dr. Thiboutot noted that spironolactone “seems to control quite well those cystic-type nodules that they [women] get on their lower face and chin.”

Yet Dr. Julie C Harper Dr. Harper of the department of dermatology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham doesn’t recommend spironolactone so easily.

Only if neither topical retinoids nor antibiotics have not worked for a woman’s case of acne would Dr. Harper then suggest using spironolactone for women over 35.

A woman’s response to androgens is so varied that limiting herself to an androgen blockers like spironolactone certainly does not guarantee a cure, or even a quick treatment.

Overproduction of androgens is just one step in a series of potential events that could lead to acne. Instead of hormonal manipulation with drugs, women with acne regulate this conditional using food, stress control and greater awareness of potential acne triggers like environmental estrogens.

Women with acne have numerous treatments options. If a woman does decide to go with spironolactone, it’s best to get her prescription filled with her gynecologist rather than her general practitioner.

by NAWEKO SAN-JOYZ

Acne Control Is Yours With These Top 6 Secrets

Acne control can be a frustrating thing. Is there any way to achieve clear beautiful skin? The answer is yes! Control of your acne is possible by following closely these steps in the article.
There are so many products on the market that say they can cure your acne overnight or in days, so you buy it only to be disappointed. Is there any way to achieve clear beautiful skin? The answer is yes!

Acne control is possible by following these 6 easy steps:

  1. Use The Product As Directed

It seems to go without saying, but many people will buy a product and think that they are all the same. The key to using any acne solution successfully is following label instructions.

The company marketing the product has likely spent thousands, if not millions testing the best use of their product to help you gain acne control. If you decide that you want to use more than is directed because you think it will work faster, you are merely wasting your money. By using the product once a day instead of twice a day, as directed, you are guaranteeing that the product won’t work as well and you will be unhappy. Bottom line; follow label instructions for maximum effectiveness.

  2. Put It Where You Can See It

The easiest thing to do is forget to use your acne medication. So take the “remembering” out of it. Put your products where you can see them. This way, when you get up in the morning and go to bed at night, they’ll be right there in front of you. After all, how will you achieve acne control if you aren’t even using the product?

  3. Wash and Wait

When you first wash your face with lukewarm water or get out of a hot shower, your pores are wide open. This increases the chance of skin irritation from certain topical solutions containing benzoyl peroxide or retinoids like Retinol or Retin-A. Avoid the skin irritation by waiting 10-15 minutes before applying your topical solution. Your face will thank you for it and the product will still do its job.

  4. Apply Your Benzoyl Peroxide and Retinoid Products To The Entire Area, Not Just Where Your Zits Are

These products will best cleanse and help you gain acne control if you apply them to the entire acne prone area, not just where there are active blemishes.

  5. Is Your Skin Getting Irritated And Red?

This is a common side effect of products containing benzoyl peroxide or retinoids. To avoid this, you will want to apply a good quality moisturizer multiple times daily. Also, make sure when you wash your face; you are not scrubbing, as this will increase the irritation and actually make your acne worse. Finally, when drying your face, be sure to pat it dry with a towel, again, no scrubbing.

  6. Patience

While many products will claim to clear your acne overnight, this is generally just hype. For products to work thoroughly and to see a marked improvement, six to nine weeks of consistent use needs to occur.

Good acne control can happen if you are consistent and patient. Just follow these steps and see how much better your skin can look!

by INGRID LIHAN

Why Choose Laser Acne Treatment?

Acne is a skin disease caused by inflammation of pores due to bacteria from dead skin cells, skin debris and particles. It affects around 80% of the American population and usually occurs during teenage years and sometimes in adult years starting from the age of 18 - 24.

There are many different treatments available on the market but the one type of treatment that we are going to concentrate on is called Laser Acne Treatment. This is a method to get rid of and treat Acne and was developed to aid in permanently reducing acne and resurfacing / fading acne scars for serious conditions by reducing bacteria and healing affected skin.

Laser acne treatments involve the use of a laser to penetrate and remove acne affected skin so that new skin can form in its place. The procedure can last a few minutes for small areas and up to an hour for larger areas.

Sometimes, repeat laser acne treatments may be needed before you get the results that you want. However you should start seeing some kind of results after your first session. Results will vary from person to person because acne affects different people in different ways, but there should be a noticeable change after one treatment.

Compared to other treatments, Laser Acne Treatment is quick and safe and does not involve the need to take any medication or deal with messy facial creams or gels which is why it is popular among teenagers and adults. The only downside is that it is probably the most expensive acne treatment. Prices range from fifty dollars to over three thousand dollars depending on the type of laser acne treatment you choose. You may also experience some temporary swelling and redness on the treated areas for a few days.

Before considering this type of treatment, you should always ask your dermatologist or local doctor for advice on whether it is suitable for you. They will inform you of any risks involved and estimate the results that you will get from the treatment. You could also ask them to recommend a reliable and reputable laser acne surgeon.

A lot of people suffer from acne and it often affects their confidence, especially among teenagers. If you suffer from serious acne conditions, the first step in taking control would be to ask your dermatologist and they will help you in your decision and take you through the procedure.

by:moneyworks

All About Acne Body Wash

If you're like me, you not only get acne on your face now and then, but all over your body as well. Although I normally only get acne on my face and back, I've had at least some amount of acne on just about every area of my skin at one point or other in my life. My feet, legs, and (ahem) genital area seems to be the only places to escape it completely so far. While there is a certain relief to that fact, having acne on my scalp, back, butt, chest, stomach, and shoulders is not exactly fun. For this reason I've done plenty of experimenting with acne body washes.

Oh, the joy of acne body washes knows no bounds. They come in different sizes, shapes, colors, smells, and flavors. Well, okay, I'm not sure about the flavor part, but there certainly is a wide array of acne body washes to choose from. The search is easily narrowed down when you consider the active ingredients involved. Most acne body washes use only one of two different
active ingredients; salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide. Everything else in the wash is just for style points.

Having used plenty of different acne body washes, I consistently come back to the ones that use salicylic acid. This is somewhat counterintuitive, because benzyl peroxide seems to work best with the acne face washes I've tried. I'm not really sure why, but
salicylic acid just seems more effective for body acne than anything else, even though its only moderately effective for facial acne. I prefer the acne body wash that 'Phisoderm' makes.

So my acne prevention and treatment routine is a benzyl peroxide acne face wash, and a salicylic acid acne body wash. So long as I use these washes daily, I'm able to reduce the acne I would be getting by somewhere around 90%, which is great. However, there is still that 10% or so that gets by, and I can't really seem to do much about it. The acne on my back is especially hard to prevent; no acne body wash gets rid of it completely.

It seems to help a little if I use lotions and other skin care products in addition to an acne body wash. I like using ones with aloe vera and vitamin E. If I apply lotions like these soon after using an acne body
wash, it seems to boost the overall anti-acne effect.

by:infoserv

Acne Cure Secrets - Tips to Cure Acne

The greedy acne industry is hiding the secrets to curing your acne quickly and easily. After 11 years suffering from chronic acne I found out the simple steps to curing acne naturally! In this brief article I explain exactly what they are...

Firstly, you should know that acne can never be truly cured using cleansers or any topicals. The only way to clear your skin is internally...

The first thing you must do is stop eating vegetable oil IF you want clear skin! This is because vegetable oil causes inflammation at a hormonal level and results in acne break outs.

The main source of vegetable oil in your diet is likely to be from vegetable cooking oils such as sunflower oil. DO NOT cook with these! You should also be careful about vegetable oil in food products like sauces. Make it a habit to check the food ingredient list to make sure no vegetable oil is in it. There will always be non-vegetable oil alternatives!

Ok, so you've stopped eating vegetable oil and you see your acne is clearing up quickly. Next, you need to get lots of quality nutrients into your body as this really helps with acne. To do this simply eat more wholefoods and vegetables and take quality supplements. Vitamins, minerals and enzymes are so important to clear skin, it really cannot be understated!

The last step to wipe out your acne is to check if you have candida. The biggest giveaway that you have candida is having a white coating on your tongue. If you have candida (which causes acne by the way) you need to cut out sugar from your diet, and increase vegetable intake. You should also take probiotics. These basic steps should be adequate to your beat candida, but there are more advanced steps if you need them...

These three simple steps are the secrets to clearing your acne that the greedy acne industry doesn't want you to know...

by:Guest font-family: verdana; text-align: justify;" class="ArticleText"> Are you looking for acne prevention diet? What you eat greatly affects the condition of your skin. And this relation is much more complicated that avoiding oily foods. Discover what foods can truly help you cure acne and what products you shouldn't eat because they can actually make your acne worse.

If anybody tells you that a special acne diet alone can cure your acne, be cautious. Most people need a combination of right diet and another acne treatment like an acne cream. One thing the right acne prevention diet can do is to supply your body and immune system with nutrients to fight acne. There are also foods that can make your acne worse, so naturally you want to avoid these.

1. Milk is not your friend

Milk is good for babies and young children, but not so good for teenagers. Especially if you have acne. And, surprisingly, it is not the fat in milk that makes it a problem. Milk contains certain hormones that can cause acne breakouts. That doesn't mean that you should not drink milk all together, of course. Coffee with cream or milk, or a bowl of cereal every now and then wouldn't do your skin any harm. But don't drink more than a glass of milk a day.

2. Reduce sugar intake for effective acne diet

This is not 100 percent scientifically proved, but many doctors suggest that excessive sugar can make acne worse. Chocolates, sweets and soft drinks are loaded with sugar. Try to cut down on them, if not illuminate completely.

3. Fish oil helps to stop acne

Eat more fish. Not only it is generally good for your health, but Omega 3 fats found in fish are essential for healthy skin and acne prevention. Best sources of Omega 3 are salmon, cod and tuna. Alternatively, you can take fish fat as a supplement.

4. Vitamins are important to prevent acne

Some vitamins are essential for acne diet. Most important are Vitamin B5 and Vitamin A. In high doses Vitamin A gives great results to cure acne. But it can be toxic, so you shouldn't take it without consulting your doctor. Vitamin E is also essential for good healthy skin. You can get an acne vitamin complex. A good multivitamin pill a day would also do the trick. And, of course, eating fresh fruit and veggies can help with vitamin intake, but you already knew that, right?

5. Zink can prevent acne

Eat eggs, whole grains and mushrooms - they are a good source of Zink. Zink can help reduce acne. The reason it can help is because is busts your immune system, helping your body cure acne naturally.

Try to follow these tips for at least two weeks and you should see that your blemishes reduce. The Latin meaning of sebum is fat. Sebum comes out of the glands in the skin and coats the hair follicles. You find that your hair becomes oily if you leave it unwashed for few days, isn’t it? Traveling through the hair, sebum reaches the surface of the skin. There it mixes with other lipids, sweat and protects the skin.

Sebum itself is odorless but its bacterial disintegration produces odor. That is why if you keep your skin clean of bacteria with anti-bacterial soaps regularly, you can reduce body odor to a great extent.

  How sebum is produced?

Sebum is produced by sebaceous glands. These glands are found on most parts of the body. Except few, most sebaceous glands open into a hair follicle. The distribution of sebaceous glands is different in body. They are found most on the forehead chin. and middle portion of the back.

  What does sebum do?

Sebum forms part of oil that coats the skin. Sweat, lipids and environmental dirt are other ingredients of the oil on the skin. This oil protects skin from bacterial infection. It also reduces the natural water loss from the skin.

  Sebum production:

Sebum production decreases with age. In women, it reduces substantially after menopause. Adult females produce less sebum than men. Sebum production increases suddenly at the time of puberty.

  Sebum and acne-

Sebum is one of the main causes of Acne. That is why most of us have acne outbreaks during our puberty. This sebum gets infected by bacteria P.acnes and forms acne. If we reduce sebum, we can control the acne. Sebum production can be controlled by various medicines- mainly Vitamin A derivatives and Birth Control Pills.

Myths about Sebum and skin oil-

Some people believe that drying excess sebum with blotting oils will reduce sebum production. Some believe that if you use products designed to control oil production that will increase sebum production. Both are wrong conclusions. Drying excess oil will only remove surface oil. And using oil control products will not increase sebum production.

This article is only for informative purposes. Today, the market is overloaded with many treatment options for acne to choose from.
You need to consult a health care practitioner because each treatment would produce different results on different types of acne. The type of acne on body varies from mild and moderate to severe.

Doctors usually prescribe a combination of remedies to treat acne. One of the most commonly prescribed treatments for acne in conjunction with topical remedies is antibiotics. Some of the most common antibiotics used in this regard include the following:

  a) Erythromycin

  b) Tetracycline

  c) Minocycline

  d) Doxycycine

  A) The working of antibiotics to treat acne

Antibiotics are responsible for controlling breakouts via curbing the production of P. acnes (Propionobacterium) in the body. This bacteria is known to be a major cause of acne production in the body and to reduce inflammation. The whole process may actually take many week or even months together. Hence, it is very important to exercise patience.

Most people think that if the breakouts have been subsided, they are cured. However, this is not the case. When the breakouts are subsided, it is an indication that medicines are doing their job properly. Hence, if you stop as soon as you see breakout, being subsided, it will probably come back.

Similarly, increasing the dose of medication without consulting your doctor will not clear up the skin at a fast pace. In fact, this may also result in certain side effects. This may result in plugging and follicular irritation.

In case, you are suffering from a lot of blackheads and whiteheads, you can use a topical treatment that would unblock pores. You may also be prescribed to use an antibiotic tablet as an oral form.

It is important to read the leaflet carefully prior to start using antibiotics.

  B) Certain precautions

a) Children under the age of twelve years should not take tetracycline based antibiotics. Even if you already suffer from acne, try some of the prevention tips. They might help you control the acne.

  Avoid pimples

To avoid pimples, don’t touch your face. The oils in your hands can be deadly to an oily face. Also, your hands aren’t clean, so they bring dirt and oil to your skin.

Doctors can’t seem to agree on whether or not chocolate or oily foods create more acne, but this we know: people who eat a good diet full of whole foods and who drink a lot of water usually have better skin than those who don’t do those things.

When you see a pimple developing, don’t poke or scratch at it -- doing that can only irritate the skin more, which is exactly what you don’t want to do. Leave it alone and then work some magic with removal techniques. But poking and picking will do more harm than good.

When you wash your face, don’t rub hard and don’t use a rough washcloth. You want to get rid of the pimples and it could seem that rubbing them and using a coarse washcloth will be good, but those actually irritate your skin more and can lead to more acne. Use a soft cloth, warm water and rub gently.

  Get rid of a pimple

Here are some tried and true techniques. Some might seem silly or odd, but they have worked for some people. Might be worth a try!

Toothpaste – Try to put a dab of toothpaste on the pimple and let it sit. The toothpaste is drying and will dry out the pimple. If you don’t have really sensitive skin, you can leave the toothpaste on overnight (only a small dab of toothpaste, though!), but if your skin is sensitive, leave the toothpaste on for about an hour and then wash off.

Reduce stress – Really! Experts say that acne is often caused by stress, and if you already have acne, it will be hard to get rid of it if you don’t learn to relax. Do you notice that you have more acne problems when you’re stressed? That’s because acne is caused by hormonal imbalances and stress plays with your hormones. Do some yoga, take a walk, or see a funny movie. Whatever will help you to de-stress, do it.

Baking soda -- Make a paste out of baking soda and water. It should be very thick. A little dab will do ya. Just put it on the pimple and go to bed. Often the pimple will be dried up by morning.

by NIALL ROCHE

Get Control Over Your Acne

You awaken at the crack of dawn wash up quickly, and run out the door. You smell wonderful, with the aid of soap and perfume, but what does your face look like? Does it look healthy? Yes, you threw some water on your face. But is it actually clean? If you want to achieve acne control and eliminate blemishes, there‘s a system you have to follow. This acne control system involves washing your face regularly. Did you know that the main cause of acne is neglect? It's true.

Obviously, we're concerned with our appearance. If this wasn't the case, we wouldn‘t be spending so much time in the mirrors. There we are, doing our hair, misting our bodies in fragrant sprays, rubbing chemically treated products on our skin, but we show our faces no concern. It‘s time to stop ignoring our faces! It‘s not okay to disregard our acne prone skin. It‘s time to start looking for a proactive acne control solution. Otherwise, the problem will never resolve itself.
There are days when we wake up in the morning and feel facial discomfort. It could be a minor irritation or even a painful spot on our faces. It's a pimple and our face is trying to get our attention. It's pleading with us to pay attention to our diets, or avoid stress, or even unclog a clogged pore. There are many different types of pimples, each of them are caused by something different. What can you do prevent white heads, pimples, zits, akne, rosacea, red blotches, blackheads, and zits from showing up on your face? The acne control solution isn't all that difficult to master.
To begin with, you can apply an acne cleanser. Attempt this technique for a couple of weeks. If you are depressed with the outcome, you can search for a substitute acne control solution. With so many acne products available in stores, including acne cleansers, acne lotions, acne gels, acne strips, acne masks, acne pills, and acne herbs, you're bound to find something that works. Accomplishing acne control is a matter of eliminating products that do not work, and finding the acne treatment that does.
For those people who experience mild and severe acne, there are acne support groups and acne forums available to them. Acne related topics are generally discussed and many acne sufferers share acne tips, acne solutions, acne home remedies, and emotional support. Check your local library and/or bookstore for acne books that offer insightful strategies to combating acne and finding the greatest acne control solution.
by: Richard Sutter
Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/non-fiction-articles/get-control-over-your-acne-24601.html

About the Author:
Richard Sutter is team member of Clearogen, an acne treatment company providing new technological advances in acne skin care. Acne is a skin disease and scientists have published various reports stating why acne occurs but the information about successful acne treatment has not been plentiful.

Much of the reason for this is that there is no "one size fits all" solution or miracle cure for acne. One of the big reasons that there are hundreds of creams and lotions and cleansers for acne is because one method works for some people, another method works for other people, etc. The problem with this scenario is that you could go through literally hundreds of acne treatment products before you found the one that works for you, so research continues to try to find a common solution to acne treatment.

One of the latest promising research studies makes use of an acne treatment using a controlled light source. This treatment has shown that it is pretty effective for acne problems from mild to severe, and is painless for the patient. In fact, many of the test patients have actually found the acne treatment to be soothing for them.

This type of acne treatment is a hand piece which is designed with a specific type of fluorescent lighting which is used to kill the bacteria and thereby interrupting their metabolic processes. The hand piece uses pulsed light which is an advanced treatment for the use of technology to control acne without causing damage to healthy skin.

This pulsed light treatment can also help to control acne breakouts. While this treatment does not provide a real cure for acne, it has shown great promise in being able to treat acne and prevent breakouts of it. Although it is currently quite expensive compared to the majority of over the counter acne treatments, the research on this new method is still being conducted to refine the results and improve the technology.

This approach is similar to ultrasonic facial therapies and each different approach continues to evolve and get better over time as scientists make new discoveries about how the skin works and what can irritate it. While this type of light pulsed treatment is available on a very limited basis so far, some of the critiques of this approach are that it still does not solve the age old problem of being effective for everyone.

Your best bet for acne control is to visit with your doctor or a dermatologist. They understand the different types of skin and should be able to provide you with insights and suggestions about what acne treatment methods are likely to work best for you. They understand that there is not a magic potion that will work for anyone, but they will be able to narrow down your list of possible treatments from the hundreds that are available. They can also provide you with information at the very basic level about what causes acne and what irritates it and causes it to flare up. The root causes here are NOT what the majority of people think, so some education in this area can further assist you in your goal to get effective acne treatment.
Author: Jon Arnold

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/health-articles/light-based-treatment-for-acne-256585.html

About the Author:
For more insights and additional information about Finding The Most Effective Acne Treatment please visit our web site at http://www.acne-warrior.com

Acne Control Options for Acne Sufferers

Acne control has improved leaps and bounds over the years, though we still see that acne plagues teenagers and young adults everywhere. Modern medicine has certainly stepped up as the years have progressed, bringing down the occurrence a bit with prescription and over-the-counter medications.

What is the real cause of acne? As some readers might already realize, dirt, skin oil, and dead skin can all contribute to acne problems, especially for teenagers. Even teenagers with proper hygiene fall victim to acne problems, so don't feel as though people with acne are naturally "dirty" people. In fact, the opposite is quite true. Skin oils are natural, and everyone, including those who do not have acne problems, have oil buildups regardless of hygiene habits. When oils and dirt build up enough, bacteria begins to grow in your skin's pores, leading to what we call a "zit."

Zits (or pimples) can be rather unsightly, so proper care should be taken to cleanse your face and body everyday regardless of how dirty you feel you've gotten throughout the day. Even dust in the air can contribute to acne problems, so proper care is needed on a daily basis.

What kinds of products are effective at keeping acne at bay? Certain products may actually contribute to an acne problem, so be aware of what you're putting on your face. Using all-natural soaps or washes is your best bet, as these won't contain chemicals or other substances that can cause your pores to clog up further. Try to use these all-natural products at least twice a day, even if you have to take a couple minutes during a school or work break to get it done. Your skin will thank you for the effort.

Other types of acne control products can be found at your local pharmacy, listed as "over-the-counter" medications. These may include chemicals that are specifically designed to unclog pores (unlike the harmful chemicals discussed above), and can greatly aid in reducing breakouts. These over-the-counter medications often come in the form of pads, washes, or creams, and can typically be used safely without a doctor's supervision unless you're allergic to any of the chemicals used in the product.

Finally, if your acne isn't responding to daily washings or over-the-counter products, your doctor may prescribe you a more powerful prescription acne control drug. If you believe that you fall within this category, see your dermatologist.

I certainly hope that this article has helped you consider your various acne control options.
by: Joe Smith
Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/acne-articles/acne-control-options-for-acne-sufferers-452994.html

About the Author:
Joe provides an excellent source of information on acne care product selection, as well as information on adult acne products at his website.

Look For Best over the Counter Acne Treatment

Acne is very unlikable skin condition, which young and old is now learning to stay with it. However there are some ways in which the person can take few steps to help get better the situation. Normally a person will consult their doctor who will prescribe some type of treatment to deal with the condition. But, today no longer does person require doing this instead they can go to their normal drugstore and take up a best over the counter acne treatment from their skin.
How does somebody decide which is best over the counter acne treatment for them to make use of and whose recommendation should they pay attention to? In fact since there are lots of advertisements around about these acne products it makes it very difficult for anybody suffering from the acne to identify which one is the best for them.

First thing however anybody should do is to make a decision whether they desire to use a customary form of medication or else go for the more natural products or else remedies, which they can purchase. Certainly number of different natural acne products available is progressively growing and as progressively people want to direct much more fit and normal life styles they want to use further holistic and best over the counter acne treatment methods instead. But it is best you do some research to make sure that you are completely aware of what you have to do for your skin.

Benzoyl peroxide is as well very effectual for removing dead skin cells. These build up on your skin and can end result in development of pimples and these dead skin cells later combine together with the body’ naturally happening sebum ensuing in whiteheads as well as blackheads.

Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be very effective and secure in fighting scratches. You can as well use it after the acne has cleared up in order to keep your skin liberated from bacteria, which causes acne. One and only side effect, which may be linked with is dry skin. Dried skin can be shunned by cutting back on frequency of usage. Care should be further taken to maintain benzoyl peroxide from getting in touch with hair and clothing as it can act as bleach.

Salicylic acid is one more ingredient, which has been found very successful in the acne medications. On my son's circumstance we found that solution having 2% salicylic acid also works very well. Salicylic acid works to clear up the dead skin cells that tend to clog all your pores. As with the benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid must continue to be utilized on your skin after acne has been cleared up. This might stop outbreaks of the acne from happening. Again only side effect might be aggravated and dry skin.

If you desire to use customary medical treatments, which are further more straightforward, then it will contain salycic acid or else benzoyl peroxide. But when in fact deciding what is best over the counter acne treatment as every product is suitable to diverse people in diverse ways. One most important thing you might find is that majority of the products might treat the trouble by drying skin to prevent any surplus oil building up on your skin.

So instead of purchasing a best over the counter acne treatment that looks best inside the shop you must instead ask pharmacist which one they think to be best for you to employ. Pharmacists will have many years of experience in dealing with this problem and are likely able to know which type of products will work best for you.
by JAMES BRUCE

A Guide To Guide To Acne Scar Removal

Certain common ailments are existent for centuries. Acne is one such shoddy condition that affects our skin. I’ll try to help you find them, but I always focus on safety first.
Cosmetic companies need to stop using hazardous compounds and cancer-causing chemicals. But, as long as we continue to buy them, they won’t. So, I’m trying to tell everyone about things to avoid. Hopefully, that will eventually get them taken off the market.

Government regulating agencies are slow to react to new scientific research. Retail department stores are sometimes quicker to take action. But, when it comes to cosmetics, people tend not to worry about it.

For many years, it wasn’t a problem. Most of the chemicals didn’t penetrate the epidermis, so other than causing superficial irritation, they could do little damage.

Today, the most effective skincare products are manufactured using nanotechnology. They penetrate deeply, even entering the tissues and muscles. If a company is going to use that kind of technology, the ingredients should be safe.

Here’s a short list of things to avoid. They are either strongly suspected of or known to cause cancer. Or, they inhibit the skin’s natural cell renewal process, thereby causing premature aging.

Petrolatum, mineral oils, paraffin wax, liquid paraffin, oxybenzone, triclosan, acrylamide, titanium dioxide, dioxins, artificial fragrances, parabens, DEA, MEA, TEA, nitrosamines, padimate-O and polyethylene glycol. That is not a complete list, I’m sure, but it’s as much as I can include here.

If you know anything about any of these ingredients, you will recognize that some of them are sunscreens. Organic and synthetic sunscreens were rushed to the market without proper safety testing. Now, years later, we learn that many of them cause cancer, which is what we were trying to prevent by using sunscreen in the first place.

The most effective skincare products for sunburn protection are also the safest. Nearly every drug store carries a store brand of zinc oxide sun block, with a 30+ SPF rating. That’s the most protection and the safest product that you can buy.

For moisturizing, petrolatum and mineral oils are widely used. They are not, in fact, moisturizing. They actually “repel” moisture and they interfere with the natural cell renewal process.

The most effective skincare products for moisturizing are those that contain grape seed oil and natural vitamin E. Grape seed oils are very similar on a molecular level to the skin’s own sebum. They are quickly absorbed and form a light film that prevents dirt particles from entering the pores.

Natural vitamin E is a strong antioxidant. When combined with coenzyme Q10 and properly manufactured, it can penetrate deeply. Even though the antioxidants are completely safe, they fade wrinkles and fine lines by undoing free radical damage.

Some compounds support the natural cell renewal process and speeds it up again, when age causes it to slow down. Amino acids and proteins are the keys. The skin cells need keratin, tryptophan, valine and other amino acids.

You won’t find the most effective skincare products being promoted by a celebrity. The company has to pay her too much for her endorsement. But, now, at least you have a better idea about safety and effectiveness.
by JAMI GOODE

Best Acne Control Methods

Acne is a nightmare for so many people. Not only teens, many adults have acne too. Is there an ultimate acne control treatment? Unfortunately the miracle acne medicine is yet to be discovered. If any acne product promises you an acne free face in three days don't you believe that. However, there are several ways to control acne that work well for most people. Want to know what they are?

Acne control - is there an ultimate acne treatment?

Can acne be cured? Unfortunately not, at least not completely. Scientists are still not certain what cause acne. Most agree that it is related to hormonal imbalance that happens during puberty. But there is still no explanation why some teens are so badly affected while their lucky peers can clean faces. But the good news is that whatever causes acne, it can be controlled and acne outbreaks can be prevented.

The most unlucky group who has acne is teenagers, but adult acne happens often too. It can suddenly pop up at any age. Common condition called acne rosacea occurs after 30.

As with any disease it is better to prevent it than to cure. With acne this is especially true - preventing acne outbreaks is very important.

Acne control diet

Your diet is important for acne control. It was previously believed that oily foods like pizza and other fast foods can cause acne. Recent studies have shown that this is not true. However, these foods are "empty calories" meaning that they don't deliver any useful vitamins and nutrients.

To help your skin fight acne you need to provide it with good nutrition. So plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables is a must for a good acne control diet. Most important vitamin for preventing acne is Vitamin B5. You can take it as additional supplement. Eating fish is also beneficial, because Omega 3 fat is important for healthy skin. Also avoid drinking too much milk. Milk contains some hormones that can cause acne breakouts.

Regular cleansing is the best acne control treatment

Use gentle acne cleansers to wash your face. Usually using a cleanser in the morning and in the evening gives best results. Doing it more often won't help, it can only irritate your skin. It is important to use an acne cleanser even when you don't have an outbreak. It will prevent acne from popping up. Cleansers with benzoyl peroxide give best results. You can get acne cleansers in any chemist or supermarket.

Prescription acne medication

For mild cases of acne simply cleansing your skin every day will help. However, if you used a good cleanser for a couple weeks and saw no improvement, it is time to visit a dermatologist and ask a professional advice. Don't waste you time and money trying other over the counter products that promise miracles - most of them contain the same ingredients any way. So if one cleanser didn't work for you, it is unlikely that any other would ether.

A doctor can prescribe you an acne control treatment suitable for your skin. It can be acne antibiotic cream or an oral acne medication. To clean your skin a doctor can also suggest a cleaning treatment such as dermabrasion or a chemical peel.

The key to best acne control treatments is not to give up. If you found acne cleanser or cream that works, use it regularly. And don't forget about your diet too. Follow doctor's instructions, if you are prescribed acne treatment. This way you can clear your face of acne and prevent farther outbreaks.
by:turner_tatyana

Acne Fact and Fiction! Do Stress, Facials and Concealer's Help to Promote or Reduce Acne Breakouts?

What is Acne? People have differing opinions as to what acne really is. So, what exactly is acne? Do a couple of occasional but recurring zits qualify as a case of acne or do you have to have a lot of zits?

Believe it or not, the answer is that occasional pimples or zits do not constitute a true case of acne. Although zits do seem to have the ability to appear almost instantaneously and at the most inopportune times like picture day, prom night, spelling bees, sporting events, dates, and special award ceremonies, they are not a true acne outbreak.

The dictionary defines acne as "an inflammatory disease of the sebaceous glands, characterized by comedones and pimples, especially on the face, back, chest, and, in severe cases, by cysts and nodules resulting in scarring."

The anatomical definition of sebaceous glands is: "small subcutaneous glands usually connected with hair follicles. The follicles secrete an oily semi-fluid matter, composed in great part of fat, which softens and lubricates the hair and skin."

Real acne outbreaks are actually a disease of the skin. However, the great news is that acne is treatable. Although it can be very embarrassing, cause great emotional distress, and lower your personal self-esteem for a period of time, acne is not fatal.

There are new and effective treatments being sought by researchers and great advances have been made in the treatment of acne in the last few years. Years ago, when a person had acne, they were pretty much stuck with the problem. There were very few treatments available and the medical profession didn't even consider acne a disease.

It was long thought that acne was the direct result of a diet that was too high in fat and/or sweets. That is no longer the case. Acne is most often associated with puberty and the onset of pre-teen and teenage years but it can and does develop in adults as well. When acne does finally heal, there can be permanent scars left (from picking and popping) that are unsightly and cause patients to suffer long term emotional distress and low self- esteem.

New and very effective skin resurfacing treatments have been developed over the last several years that have, if not completely removed acne scars, at least diminished their appearance and severity.

Acne Fact or Fiction:

You can hear a lot of tall tales about acne today, so let's take a look at the fact or fiction of acne. It is always better to be well armed with factual information so that you don't get fooled by the fictional facts that surround acne.

Fictional Fact #1: Acne is caused by a lack of sexual activity.

Factual Fact: Acne and sexual activity are two entirely separate issues. One has no bearing on the other. Hormones secreted during puberty and young adulthood does have a bearing on acne. They also have a bearing on sexual arousal and activity. However, acne has no bearing on sexual activity nor does sexual activity have any bearing on acne.

Fictional Fact #2: People have acne because they are dirty.

Factual Fact: Dirt has no part in acne. Dirt is dirt. Acne is acne. One has nothing to do with the other. Acne is a build up of oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Dirt isn't involved. Keeping the face clean can and will help to prevent clogged pores but dirt does not cause acne.

Fictional Fact #3: Dermatologists can cure acne.

Factual Fact: Dermatologists can TREAT acne. They can help to alleviate the symptoms and help to clear up the pimples, black-heads, and white heads. They can prescribe antibiotics and topical ointments, lotions, and creams that will help but there is no cure at this time for acne.

Fictional Fact #4: Acne is simply a skin problem.

Factual Fact: It's true that acne affects the skin but it can also affect the way a person sees himself or herself. Acne and the scarring it can leave behind may cause a sufferer to become depressed and develop low self-esteem, both of which can lead to larger and more complex life socialization problems. Acne sufferers need the loving support and reassurance from their family and friends.

Acne and Stress:

Can stress actually cause acne? There is ample evidence available to suggest that stress can most assuredly cause an acne breakout or make an existing breakout worse. Our bodies are highly developed chemical laboratories that produce all sorts of stuff.

At puberty, our body begins to produce an abundance of male hormones and this happens in both boys and girls. This overproduction of male hormones can happen at other times in life besides puberty; for example, when a girl or woman starting or stops taking birth control pills.

These male hormones cause the bodies sebaceous glands to shift into overdrive and begin producing sebum. The sebum then travels up hair follicles, clogs the pores and begins the acne development cycle. However, male hormones are not the only cause for the sebaceous glands to begin producing an overabundance of sebum. When we become extremely stressed or overly emotional, our bodies react by causing the adrenal glands to produce a substance known as Cortisol, which is released directly into the bloodstream. Then the chemical chain reaction continues as the sebaceous glands release sebum, the sebum travels up the same hair follicles, clogs the pores and acne develops.

The physical changes in the body can cause exactly the same chemical chain reaction as the emotional changes in the mind. The mind/body connection is very real. Maybe some of it really IS in your head. If that's the case, there is help available to help people deal with the acne that is caused by stress. Reducing stress will just naturally reduce sebum production by the sebaceous glands and reducing sebum production will help to alleviate an acne breakout. Therefore, when you learn to reduce and control you stress levels, this part of the chemical chain reaction is minimized.

It really it isn't any different than restoring a hormonal balance to your body that reduces sebum production. So, in the final analysis, both factors that cause excessive sebum production should be addressed. Solving one problem might help; however, solving both problems could eliminate acne altogether.

Acne Facials:

If you are part of the 95 of the population who suffer from acne, you have more than likely seen TV or print media advertisements for acne facials. Have you ever wondered if there is anything to the claims that their manufacturers make?

In general, the answer is yes! Most acne facials are very effective, pretty much worth the price, and can be used in conjunction with your usual acne fighting regime. They won't necessarily replace any part of what you are already doing; but, rather enhance the overall effects.

You can find acne facials in most health stores, at many cosmetic counters, and online. As a matter of fact, you can probably complete a better comparison of available products online than you can anywhere else.

Most of these acne facial products provide for a three-step program. The first step is a complete facial cleansing. The next step is a steam massage. The final step is a facial mask. The first two steps are designed to prepare the face. The steam massage softens the black heads and the white heads to remove toxins from your skin. The facial mask serves to remove the dead skin cells from the face and to moisturize it as well. The overall effect of the acne facial is a very relaxing, calming, and cleansing experience. It just plain feels good. Anything that helps to calm and sooth your stress can't be bad because we all know that acne is aggravated by high stress levels. Acne facial masks can be used in addition to other parts of your acne prevention and treatment regime or you may find that the facial can, in fact, actually replace some things that you are currently doing.

Acne Concealer's:

One of Newton's laws of physics laws says that, "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." That law of physics spills over into a lot of our life situations. For example: A young woman gets a zit and wants to cover it up. The cosmetics industry has a multitude of products designed to do just that. Okay, that's a little far out there but you get my point.

The acne pimples, whether they are white heads or black heads should never be picked at or popped. If they are popped or picked, it can and normally does result is a scar that is much harder to get rid of than the actual pimple, black head or white head. Popping a pimple is not going to make it go away. In fact, popping a pimple is only going to make the acne worse.

Still when you get a zit, you have to go out and face the world so you are looking for ways to make your skin look clear. You want to disguise the zit and make it as unnoticeable as possible. Here is where the cosmetic industry can help. There are a multitude of products designed to make a zit less noticeable. You don't want to use a product that just adds to the problem by adding additional oil to already oily skin. So, you do need to remember, that when you use a cover product to make the zit less noticeable, you need to totally clean the product from your skin immediately when you return home.

Some of the better known as well as more effective cosmetic concealer's on the market today are:

1. Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer: This product produces a smooth matte appearance and was designed specifically for covering acne blemishes as well as for covering Rosacea and dark circles under the eyes.

2. Flawless Skin by Prescriptives: This product will not aggravate acne but will supply a medium to full coverage and it contains SPF 25 for protection from the sun.

Don't let acne control you; but rather, become smart and learn how to control the negative influences in your life that create a positive situation for acne to develop!

by: Stephen M. How about looking for acne control to avoid the
sudden appearance of acne in your skin? A myriad of medications, both over-the-counter and prescribed, can help with the blemishes and pimples associated with acne. However, a solid foundation of good skin care practices can be the difference between frequent blemish outbreaks and a more controlled and even skin appearance. Which do you prefer?
You may ask, "How can I take better care of my skin when I have all of these blemishes to deal with?" This is a commonly asked question and the reason why we developed these 5 easy skin care tips. They are intended to be an easy to follow routine, which will compliment any acne treatment regimen.

Following these 5 easy skin care tips will only take a few extra minutes each day and can make a dramatic difference in your skin appearance. And this is really what it's all about - improving your appearance and feeling better about yourself. Follow these tips and see if you don't notice the difference.

Gently Clean Your Face

Gentle is the key word here, as scrubbing the skin will only further irritate the acne. You should only use a gentle soap or skin cleaner made specifically for acne prone skin. Use a soft cloth to moisten the face and then apply the soap or cleaner gently to your skin, starting at the hairline and working your way down to your neck. Using your fingers, rather than a wash cloth, to work the soap around your face assures that you will not further irritate the acne.

Rinse your skin with plenty of water and pat dry with a soft towel. Again, do not scrub your face using the towel.

If you are prone to having oily skin, it may be necessary to apply an astringent to your skin. This should be done with care, as some astringents may irritate your acne. If you elect to use an astringent, it should only be applied to those areas of your face that are most oily. If you have concerns regarding the use of astringents, it's best to consult with your dermatologist.

Avoid Touching Your Blemishes

It can be very tempting, but don't give in to the urge to squeeze or pop pimples. What can seem like immediate gratification, can turn into something far worse. Breaking open a pustule or pimple invites bacterium to spread, causing even more pimples and blemishes. It can even result in permanent scarring.

A better solution is to just avoid touching your face altogether. Your hands tend to be dirty, oily and carry germs, which can all lead to the further spread of the acne. Just don't do it!

Apply Makeup Sparingly

Makeup has become a part of everyday grooming, but must be used carefully in combination with an acne skin condition. Of course, the best solution is to not wear makeup at all. But if you decide it is a "necessity", make sure that the product you use is noncomedogenic, or will not clog your pores. And lastly, never use a makeup that has an oil base, it can severely exacerbate your acne.

Shave with Care

Shaving is a normal part of male grooming, but can be a painful experience for those suffering from acne. Deciding which shaving method - safety razor versus electric shaver - is right for you is more of a trial and error process. Try both and see which is more comfortable for you.

Regardless of which you choose, there are a few recommendations that will make the shaving experience more pleasant. Try to moisten the beard as much as possible before shaving. If using a safety razor, try using a sensitive skin shaving cream. Never use dull razor blades; it will just irritate your acne. And don't forget to change the blades on a regular basis.

Try to avoid shaving over blemishes; this can cause problems with spreading the bacteria that causes the acne. If you are experiencing a bad breakout, don't be afraid to miss a day or two of shaving. There is no sense in aggravating the situation even more.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

We all know that a suntan makes us look healthier and can temporarily hide your acne. However, your skin becomes accustomed to the sunlight, and the acne ultimately flairs up again. A greater risk to you is that some acne medications make your skin sensitive to sunlight. This can cause a severe skin reaction from even limited sun exposure.

And as most dermatologists warn, direct sunlight will also dry out your skin, making it more vulnerable to aging and skin cancer. It just isn't worth it! Be safe and apply a generous amount of sensitive-skin sunscreen to your face before heading out for a day in the sun.
By William Wilson

7 Best Acne Skin Care Tips

How do you care for your skin when acne suddenly shows up? Many people use skin care methods that actually do more harm than bring benefits. Are you one of them? See what are best acne skin care methods to prevent acne breakouts.

1. Clean your skin with gentle cleansers

Use mild cleansing agent on acne affected skin. Gently rub it in twice a day. If the weather is very hot or you do a lot of exercise makes sure to wash the sweat of your face. Bacteria can accumulate on your face when you are sweating. You can use an astringent cleanser for washing your face. Best cleansers contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, licochalone, chamomile, aloe vera, feverfew, and niacinamide. Avoid acne cleanser with high alcohol content, they will dry your skin.

Be careful not to overdo it with the cleansing. Using acne cleanser five times a day instead of two won't help. Actually it can only make your skin more irritated. Scrubbing acne affected skin is also a bad idea; it will only make acne worse.

2. Use exfoliating acne skin care products

Exfoliating means removing dead skin sells from the surface of your skin. Not only these sells make your skin look dull, they are also a good food for bacteria. At home you can use mild exfoliating scrubs about once a week. For a more dramatic effect ask a dermatologist if dermabrasion or a chemical peel can help you to get rid of acne.

3. Simplest rule of acne skin care - no squeezing and pinching

Don't tease your skin. It might be very tempting to get rid of these terrible whiteheads by squeezing them, but they will only pop up again and look even more awful then before. And it can also leave a scar on your skin.

4. Sun is the enemy of acne affected skin

Sun is damaging for any skin, but it is particularly dangerous when you have acne. First, acne makes your skin more sensitive. Second, most acne medications like cleansers and acne creams make your skin more susceptible to sun damage. Using a sun block cream is not a good idea, most sun screen creams are oil based. So for proper acne skin care stay out of the sun or wear a hat.

5. Shave with care when you have acne

Shaving can be a problem. Whether you use electric razor or a safety razor take extra care when shaving, if you have acne. If you use a safety razor, make sure it is very sharp. It is best to use disposable razors. Soften your beard with water and soap before putting a shaving cream on. It is recommended to use shaving creams for sensitive skin. And, most important, don't shave very often, because every shaving disturbs your skin and can make blemishes worse.

6. Select make-up carefully

Make-up can help to hide acne and acne scars, but you have to be careful applying it. Only select water based (not oil based) congealers and foundations. Avoid cheap cosmetic, it can damage your skin farther. If you use blush, go for a powder blush instead of a stick blush, it is less likely to clog your pores.

Remove your make up as soon as you get home. Even the best cosmetic is not really good for acne affected skin. It can clog your pores causing more acne breakouts. If you notice that your acne are getting worse, switch to a different brand make up. And don't use make-up unless absolutely necessary - decorative cosmetic is not a friend for acne skin care.

7.
